South Africa’s invitation in late 2010 and its 2011 Sanya debut are the settled origin of the five-letter name. It is treated here as a core member, not as part of the 2024 expansion.
South Africa hosted the 15th summit in Johannesburg in August 2023, where invitations to the next wave were announced.
Situation note
Cape sea-lane reroutes during Gulf disruption are an OilRoutes story. Southern Africa conflict theaters, when they exist, are cited from the Armed Conflicts hub rather than invented here.
