Core members
Brazil, Russia, India, and China met as BRIC in 2009. South Africa joined in 2010–2011 and supplied the “S”.

A founding BRIC state and the grouping’s only full member in the Americas.

A founding BRIC state and the 2026 BRICS chair in the public presidency rotation.

Expanded members
Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates took full seats on 1 January 2024. Indonesia joined in January 2025.

Ethiopia
A 2024 expansion member and a landlocked Horn of Africa state.
Iran
A 2024 expansion member on the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
United Arab Emirates
A 2024 expansion member on the Gulf side of the Strait of Hormuz.
Indonesia
The first Southeast Asian full member, seated in January 2025.
Invited / unsettled
Saudi Arabia was invited in 2023. Public evidence of completed accession is mixed, so it is not filed as a confirmed full member. See the membership note.
