Membership note
Full members are listed when accession is public and unambiguous. Invited states are filed separately when the paperwork is still cloudy.
Core (2009–2011)
Brazil, Russia, India, and China held the first BRIC summit in June 2009. South Africa was invited in December 2010 and attended Sanya in April 2011.
2024 expansion
The Johannesburg summit (August 2023) invited Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Argentina. Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE are treated here as full members from 1 January 2024. Argentina declined before that date.
2025 accession
Indonesia was confirmed as a full member in early January 2025 by the Brazilian BRICS presidency.
Saudi Arabia
Invitation is not in doubt. Completed accession is. Presidency communications have sometimes listed the Kingdom; Saudi officials have also said the invitation had not yet been formally taken up. This site keeps a dedicated page under Invited / unsettled rather than silently promoting the Kingdom to the confirmed grid. See Saudi Arabia.
Partner countries
The 2024 Kazan summit opened a partner-country track. That is a real institutional category. This first edition does not publish a full partner roster, because public lists have moved and a stale roll-call would look like a claim. Partners are not given nation pages until they become unambiguous full members.
